So, since the writer’s retreat, I’ve been working on my new fantasy – an epic fantasy that has been drawing me, demanding me to write it. I’m about 60 pages into it, and have it all plotted out (thanks to the retreat) and know where I want to go with it and what I want to write. But there’s a problem.

As I work on writing it, I sit here and look at the notebooks full of other manuscripts I’ve finished and never done anything with. Three of them, in particular, are some of my best writing. Yes, I know, my opinion, but still, I believe they are better than anything I’ve done in the past. So why haven’t I done anything with them? Two of them are historical fantasies, one is a contemporary urban fantasy. They are done, but they need work. Editing and corrections that all writers do after the first draft. But I still believe in them. There are other notebooks there with manuscripts that will never see the light of day, and that’s okay. All writers have these “practice” manuscripts. The ones we write when we’re learning the craft. Ones that may have the kernel of a good story but need too much work to make them viable. And that’s okay.

But these three that, in my opinion, have promise, are calling out to me to work on them and get them out there. So, that’s what I’m doing. I’m spending part of my time writing new stuff. Part of my time editing previous work, all with the idea of submitting them soon. So, hopefully, I’ll have some new work going out soon.
